Spiced Up Eggnog

  • 6 ounces Makers Mark Bourbon
  • 4 organic egg yolks
  • 4 organic egg whites
  • 1/3 cup raw sugar
  • 1 tablespoon raw sugar reserved
  • 1 pint organic whole milk
  • 1 cup organic heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/4 cup ice cold water

Whip the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Slowly add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until mixture is smooth. Whisk in the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg until smooth. Whip the egg whites in a seperate bowl to soft peaks. After the egg whites reach soft peaks, slowly add the 1 tablespoon of reserved sugar and beat until stiff. Wisk the egg whites into the bourbon mixture. Chill and serve.
