Brigitte Brassard found yoga in Venice Ca over 35 years ago. She was fortunate to be part of the emerging yoga community that flowered during that time in the Santa Monica Venice area. She started teaching in 1984 after training under Billy Porter, Erich Shiffman, Anna Forrest , Brian Kest and a host of international teachers. Over the past few years she has focused her attention on therapeutic/restorative yoga and believes that any individual, no matter their size or age, can access their inner self through the practice of yoga.
Jivani considers yoga a path for life and believes in its transformational powers on and off the mat. Her teaching is inspired by her deep compassion for all living beings. She delights in continually growing and evolving as a teacher. Jivani discovered the joy of Yoga in 1990 during her first year of college at UC Santa Cruz. In 2003, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training led by the students of Baba Hari Dass (Babaji) at Mt. Madonna Center in Classical Ashtanga Yoga, the 8-limbed path. Having taught steadily for more than a decade in various types of yoga, Jivani embraces Krishnamacarya’s philosophy that Yoga can be practiced by everyone but not every type of yoga is appropriate for everyone. Jivani wants to help people find “their practice.” She creates sequences that are fun and challenging while being attainable so she can share her love of yoga with all her students.
When Judith E. Shepard moved West to California, she was taken to a Bikram yoga class. Although she had danced all of her life and been an accomplished competitive diver and gymnast, she discovered a whole new way to move her body, focus her mind, and carry the discipline she had grown up with into her adult years. After Bikram, she explored, and studied with the great teachers of Ashtanga, Iyendgar, Anusara,, She came to believe that yoga is a practice from the inside out, not just strength and flexibility or contorting one’s body. By taking care of the internal universe, the organs of one’s body that sustains that body through its life, we can become our own best ‘health care system, chiropractor, and masseuse’. But most of all….so we can have fun, and not take ourselves too seriously!
